Free Twitter 2014 Template

Photoshop CS6 - Twitter 2014 Template - click to see larger

Happy Friday!

I just spent a couple hours setting up my new Twitter profile. They are rolling out a new design. I had downloaded what I thought was a good free template - it was the wrong scale. THEN it took me awhile to figure out a decent size to work with and how it will crop. Twitter recommends 1,500px wide by 500px tall, 72 dpi for the banner. I made my template 520px tall and indicated where the safe area is depending on how the twitter page is scaled. —If you found a good template, please let me know! :-) and thanks.

A few things to keep in mind if you want to download my photoshop CS6 template to use:

• The profile pic will move as the page is re-sized! I put in a placement for the profile pic, but I would use a larger square image than what is in my template. FYI I did use the size in my template for my profile pic and it looks OK.

• Turn off
the profile pic layer before you save the file for the banner.

• Take a look at my twitter page so you can see how the template crops. Sometimes the black line and bottom black bar crop just right, and most of the time it doesn't. https://twitter.com/AnnieDoodlebugz

• It isn't perfect :-) but better than what I found today - you are welcome to use it, download it for free here: https://sites.google.com/site/anniesdoodlebugz/home/downloads?pli=1

Did you notice that twitter will now let you pin a tweet to the top of your page? That way if you have a big announcement - everyone who visits the page will see it.

Hope this helps some. Looking forward to hearing what you have done.
Make my day! Follow this blog - thanks!

Artist Spotlight - Danny Phillips

Tell us a bit about yourself: Did you go to school for art? Are you self taught?
I am a self-taught artist. I graduated college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After college, I  traveled around doing comedy improve, believe it or not. Then a few years later while living in Houston, I was overtaken by the Cy Twombly exhibit at the Menil Museum. I decided I wanted to do art right then. I took a couple of intro classes, but mostly I played around like all artists and did mostly abstract expressionism. It wasn’t until about 10 years later that I found my style. I had started a faux-finishing company and that really influenced my style. I was around reclaimed wood and textures all the time.

What inspires you / where do you get inspiration from?
Anything that feels like vacation inspires me. Salt water definitely. Bright vibrant colors inspire me. Usually, I am on vacation and see something and it looks like an amazing moment that needs to be captured. I usually photograph it and then make it into a painting later. Or a lot of my ideas have come from friends who snap these shots.

Do you work in just one medium? Several?
I work only in mixed media in my personal art. With my company, I’ve worked with everything, which has come in handy. My favorite materials are recycled magazines and reclaimed wood. Those are my go-to’s. I try to use them in everything.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working mostly on commissions. I’m backed up with them. They are hard and take longer because you aren’t just creating something in your own mind, but trying to incorporate someone else's vision too. Of course, I’m always playing reggae music and doing my VW and beach scenes. These are where I’m in the zone as an artist. I let everything go and just feel good. I am in the middle of an ongoing series called “Good Vibes” that incorporates positive words into my pieces as well.

Anything else you want to tell everyone?

My art has become what I call “saturated memories.” When we make a memory, we recall it differently. Our minds take that experience and add to it. It over emphasizes the senses. Our expressions and passions towards those memories are what I’m trying to present as an artist. The sunsets in our memories are more glorious. The connection to our significant other is more romantic.  My paintings hopefully transport people to those saturated memories.

Are you an early riser? or night owl?
I’m a very early riser. When an idea comes to my mind, Bam, I wake up and can’t turn off my thoughts. I usually brew my favorite coffee and try to listen to the sounds of the day before I get going. I love working early in the morning because I feel like it’s just me and the universe.

What is your favorite food?

Lobsta. Pizza. Chicken Wings. And lots of lots of Coffee- all the time. And the occasional whiskey to combat my bad days.

FREEbie Friday! - Computer Wallpaper

Happy Friday Everyone! I Dig FREE Stuff :-D

I like collecting other artists' work. SO... Thought I would try this and see if you guys like it. Above is computer wallpaper for you :-) Click on the image to get the full size image. Then— Windows: Right click to save it to your computer. Mac: press down on the control button and click on the image, choose "save image as" in the list that pops up.

Enjoy! FYI, it is low resolution and copyrighted - so don't bother trying to re-sell it. I already went toe-to-toe with a Chinese website who lifted this image — and won ;-)

Sure! send it to a friend for their birthday to use for their computer wallpaper. Mother's Day is coming up... personal use is A-OKAY.

MAKE MY WEEK and follow my blog! Thanks,

Artist Spotlight - Elizabeth Olwen

Elizabeth is Pretty Passionate about Pretty Patterns!

Tell us a bit about yourself: Did you go to school for art? Are you self taught?
I have always been obsessed with patterns, some of my earliest memories involve the patterns in our home growing up. I was always a little artist as a kid, always drawing, painting, sewing and doing anything and everything creative. Luckily, I went to art school and discovered graphic design, which I worked in for many years. But when it comes to patterns I taught myself. I just used to goof around and make patterns for fun, and then bought a few books on textile design and learned how to create proper repeats. Once I learned that, the world opened up and I started creating patterns like crazy. When it came to how to make it a lucrative career option though, I was lost. So I took a online course called The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design, where I learned a ton about developing my personal style, putting together effective collections and how to make it as a surface designer. Things really changed after that and I’ve had a really incredible couple of years since.

What inspires you / where do you get inspiration from?
I get a ton of inspiration from nature and all of its strange and beautiful forms. I find it endlessly inspiring. Following that, I get tons of inspiration from the world around me in my wanderings. Just keeping my eyes open and trying to really SEE things that are around me. I also love old vintage fabrics and would spend every weekend at a flea market if I could.

Do you work in just one medium? Several?
I really focus on drawing with pen and paper and then I turn those drawings into digital form using my tablet. My work has a really graphic look so this suits me best!

What are you working on now?
I just finished designing my second collection of fabrics with Cloud9 Fabrics! My first collection with them, Grey Abbey (http://cloud9fabrics.com/greyabbey.html) just launched and it’s been a really wonderful experience seeing people interact with my patterns, to see what people create with them is just so exciting! So I can’t wait for the next one to come out next Fall. I’ve been working on new products with Madison Park Greetings too. We just launched a ton of new products in January (www.parksidepapers.com) — gift wraps, greeting cards, gift bags, washi tapes, iPhone covers, all sorts of stuff, which turned out beautifully — and I can’t wait for the next batch to launch too. And some other fun things in the works that I’ll share when the time is right! I’m also planning for Surtex this coming May (booth 741). I exhibited there last year for the first time, and just can’t wait to get back and do it all over again. So, busy times in my little studio!

Are you an early riser? or night owl?

Right now, I’m trying to be both! Generally speaking, I’m a night owl… I love working when I can fully relax, when there aren’t emails to attend to and I can fully unwind and just be freely creative. My boyfriend gets up early to go to work and lately I’ve been getting up early with him. He brings me a cup of tea, and I draw in bed for a few hours before I even sit down at my desk, which is just the nicest way to start the day. Basically, I feel best working when the rest of the world is asleep.

What is your favorite food?
Savoury: homemade pasta with homemade sauce. Sweet: home baked vanilla cake.
